The International Database of Historic Scientific Instruments (ISIN) aims to provide a single point of inquiry for locating objects in museum collections around the world. The Database was initiated by the Museum of the History of Science in Oxford, and has grown to include about 7,000 records. The project relies on the collaboration of institutions with scientific collections, and the site includes full details for would-be contributors. The database may be searched by keywords or browsed by object type, name, place, date, or collection. Results list the 'ISIN' number assigned by ISIN, the location of the object, associated names and places, the catalogue number of the item in its host collection, and the bounding dates of the object. Web links are returned for objects and collections with their own pages.
